AEROVIRONMENT signs $2.3M contract with DARPA



Monrovia-based unmanned aircraft manufacturer Aerovironment announced that it has signed a $2.3M contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Aerovironment says that, it will help in developing a medium altitude, long-endurance unammned aircraft system for operating from small ships, and to provide persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

Aerovironment serves as a subcontractor of Sierra Nevada Corporation, who won the overall contract.

Mainly, the DARPA project aims at development of an unmanned aircraft with capacities to handle payloads of 600 pounds and operate up to 900 nautical miles from a ship.
